It seems some malware distributors are attempting to exploit the popularity of the iPhone and games for the iPhone to spread some nasty Windows malware. The so called iPhone game is being spammed to possible victims with the promise of being an iPhone game called Penguin Panic, alas the attached Zipfile to the email is nothing more than the Windows malware 'Troj/Agent-HNY'. It is nothing more than the pretty standard Trojan that once run haves over control of your PC to some low life malware author. Alas this is pretty much a standard Trojan, nothing special, once control has been maintained the attacker is then able to load up your PC with spyware to steal information from you, turn your PC into one of a legion in a botnet to be used as a SPAM host or as a stepping stone into doing other nasties. The attached malware will only run on Windows hosts, OS X users are safe from this one and this malware does not get installed on the iPhone too. It looks like the bad guys are looking at the iPhone as an opportunity to social engineer their way into control of a users PC. At the moment there are no bits of malware out there specifically for the iPhone, although given the device popularity it is likely someone somewhere is looking for a way to infect a standard none jailbroken iPhone. |
