Since the advent of a mobile phone with some kind of UNIX on it such as a Linux or OS X (iPhone) IT Security types have been trying to drop penetration testing tools on there so they can look cool while owning someone's network from their phone. Well now we have NeoPwn the new penetration testing platform that runs on the Openmoko Neo Freerunner. The platform offers USB WLAN support, GPS Modem, GPRS Modem and CSR based Bluetooth, it also has USB hostmode which will allow a range of other devices to be used. NeoPwn runs a custom Debian based Linux installation that can boot of a microSD card with a custom kernel. Built to include numerous penetration testing tools, from Aircrack-ng, Nmap, Kismet, Hping3 and Metasploit 3 all wrapped in a GUI in a similar vein to Backtrack. The device is a GSM mobile and alas will not be available for those with legacy CDMA networks. NeoPwn is expected to ship on October 1st, 2008 for their pre-built Phone+NeoPwn bundles. Prices start at $699 US Dollars for their basic bundle package which includes:
Their Standard and Extreme packages vary by changing the WiFi card supplied on in the case of the Extreme model including a UMTS/HSDPA modem. For those that own a Neo Freerunner already there are bundles available that don't include the phone and those prices start at $299. For the really brave their is a microSD only release that starts at $79. For those taking the cheaper option, it is done on the proviso that you know how to program the Custom Bootloader to the NAND memory on the device, where one false move and you can brick the device. |
